Ohio Sake - Cherry Limited Release | Urban Artifact
What Is Ohio Sake?
Ohio Sake is a traditionally brewed sake made in Cincinnati, Ohio, with real Midwest fruit. Cherry is the first release - a dry, full-bodied sake brewed in the traditional Japanese method, finished with real cherries and nothing artificial. Bold, red, and not for the casual drinker.
10.0% ABV. 8 oz cans. Available in 4-packs.
What Does It Taste Like?
Traditional sake first. The brewing method is Japanese in every respect - rice, koji, water, time. What comes out the other end is clean, dry, and structurally sound in the way that real sake is when it's made correctly. Then the cherries arrive. Forward and unapologetic. A deep, vivid red that tells you exactly what's in the can before the first sip. It drinks dry despite the fruit presence - the sweetness of the cherry burns off and leaves a clean, long finish that serious sake drinkers will recognize immediately.
This is not a fruit drink with sake characteristics. It is a sake with cherries in it. The distinction matters.
What Makes It Different?
Sake brewed in Ohio is already unusual. Sake brewed in Ohio with Midwest fruit, in the traditional Japanese method, by a brewery obsessed with real ingredients - that's something else entirely.
Urban Artifact has spent over a decade handling real fruit at scale. The Ohio Sake line applies that same standard to a completely different fermentation tradition. No extracts. No shortcuts. Real cherries, real koji, real process.
The result is a can that has no obvious category to sit in. That's intentional.
Who Is It For?
The sake drinker who wants something they haven't seen before. The adventurous craft drinker ready to step outside beer entirely. The person who finishes a bottle of Junmai and wonders what it would taste like with Midwest cherries in it. (The answer is: exactly like this.)
This is not an entry-level drink. At 10.0% ABV, brewed dry, with a strong cherry presence and the structural complexity of traditional sake, it rewards the drinker who comes prepared.
The Ohio Sake Line
Cherry is the first release. The plan is to keep going - Midwest fruits, traditional method, Ohio-brewed. What comes next depends on what the fruit and the season allow. If you want to see where this goes, start here.
Limited Release
Available exclusively through the Urban Artifact online store. No retail. No distribution. 4-packs, 8 oz cans. When it's gone, it's gone. If it comes back, it'll be with something new in the can.
FAQ
Is this actually sake? Yes. Ohio Sake is brewed using the traditional Japanese method - rice, koji, and water fermented in the traditional fashion. It is sake. It is brewed in Ohio. Both of those things are true at the same time.
What's the ABV? 10.0%.
Is it sweet? No. It drinks dry despite the strong cherry presence. The cherry flavor is bold and forward but the finish is clean and dry.
Is it brewed with real cherries? Yes. Real cherries, not extract or flavoring. The same fruit standards Urban Artifact applies to everything it makes.
Why 8 oz cans? Because 10.0% ABV sake with real cherries deserves to be approached with some intention. Eight ounces is the right amount to start with. (You can always order more.)
Where can I find it? Online only, through the Urban Artifact website. Limited availability. Extremely limited retail distribution for this release.

Shipping FAQ
How quickly will my Fruit Tarts ship, and how long will delivery take?
We usually ship orders within 1 business day. During releases, when a large amount of orders will come in, we try to get all orders out within 2 business days. Delivery largely depends on UPS, but generally no more than 3 days depending how far you are from Cincinnati.
Why didn’t I receive the Fruit Tarts and merch that I ordered?
We ship the alcohol and merch separately, sometimes one package will take a little while longer to arrive.
Something is missing from my order, can you please help?
Yes! Reach out directly to our team at orders@artifactbeer.com with your order number and a list of missing items, and we’ll send them to you right away. We try not to let this happen, but it occasionally does, especially when we are busy.
One of my cans/bottles is broken. What should I do?
Please send a picture of the broken item(s) along with your order number to orders@artifactbeer.com. Our team will send you a replacement right away.
What’s your return policy?
We do not accept returns of alcoholic beverages; all purchases are final. Fruit Tarts are perishable, so once you purchase it, it’s yours.
We do accept returns on select merch items. If you need to return or exchange a non-perishable merch item, please email orders@artifactbeer.com.
Why is shipping so expensive?
Our Fruit Tarts are liquid, so they can be really heavy! We don’t make any money from shipping prices—depending on your order size, we might actually lose money on shipping. We do aim to keep shipping costs as reasonable as we can, but they’re largely dependent on current UPS rates. The best way to get the most value is by reaching the free shipping tier for your zone (listed above).
KY has a higher tax rate than other states we ship to: KY has a 6% sales tax, but charge an additional 7.35% wholesale tax on beer and wine due to the bourbon lobby. As a result, we are legally required to charge a 13.35% tax. This is not something we can control and we apologize if this causes any frustration. Reach out to your state representatives and let them know you’d like that to change.
Why is my state not listed?
If you live in the following states, contact your congressional representative if you ever want our Fruit Tarts shipped to your door because your current laws will not allow it:
AK, AS, AL, AZ, AR, CA, CO, DE, FL, FM, GA, GU, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, LA, ME, MH, MD, MA, MI, MN, MS, MO, MT, NV, NJ, NM, NY, NC, MP, ND, OK, PW, PR, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VI, WA, WV, WI, WY
For a couple of states (most recently NE), the costs for us to maintain the retailers' license in the state exceeds our ability to ship direct out Fruit Tarts to your door step.Perhaps as we grow, or as the states change their rules, we'll be able to expand these options for you.
