Whose idea this was
Todd's. He was on our brewing team when we started the Dino Series, and he wanted the line to have something in it that nobody would see coming. He also knew which dinosaur it should be, because the Dilophosaurus was his favorite.
The recipe he brought us was an English strong ale brewed with real bananas, and we were glad to make it.
Why it was a Windfall
The Dino Series was new, and we wanted one beer in it that didn't have to be a core product. A Windfall is a release that lives for a few months and then is gone for good, which means it's allowed to be strange. Nobody needed Dilophosaurus to become a national bestseller. We needed it to teach us something about brewing clean beer with fruit, and it did that.
It was also very good, which Todd would like noted.
The label
It's raining on a ruined temple. The banana trees have grown up through the stonework, the bananas are falling with the rain, and a couple of them appear to be enjoying it. The Dilophosaurus stands in the middle of all this with the two crests on its head, looking pleased, and a much smaller dinosaur is trying to keep up.
The statue by the ruins, in the banana yellow jacket, is Nedry from Jurassic Park, who had his own meeting with a Dilophosaurus in the rain.
Dilophosaurus is extinct, and won't be back.
