The name

A squeezebox is what people call an accordion when they're fond of it. The early labels carried the instrument by itself, redrawn a few times over the years as we kept deciding we could do it better. The current label finally gives it a player, marching along proudly with the bellows open.

The beer

Squeezebox started as one of our core Midwest Fruit Tarts, and it became the spring release, because everyone loves strawberries in the spring. A batch takes 3,000 pounds of them. That works out to a little over three pounds of strawberries in every gallon, with vanilla bean behind it.

It's also the beer we hear about most, and the one we use to explain what brewing with real fruit means in practice. Strawberries change from season to season more than almost any other fruit we work with, in color and in flavor. Some years they turn a little darker in the pasteurizer. Other years they come out bright red and the flavor jumps out of the glass. Our recipe is the same every time. The strawberries are not, and each batch of Squeezebox has that lesson in it.

The variants

Squeezebox was a favorite base for variants, and it collected eleven of them between 2017 and 2022: Chocolate Strawberry, Spicy Strawberry Jam, Strawberry Margarita, Lemon Basil Sorbet, Hazelnut & Chocolate, Orangeberry Smoothie, Strawberries & Cream, Lime Daiquiri, Strawberry Churro, Red Pepper Gazpacho, and Strawberry Shortcake. There was a Double Squeezebox too, with twice the fruit.

Squeezebox is on hiatus for now.
